And it Begins! :)

Welcome back! Today we officially start discussing some of the details of our video. We have put in a lot of thought and have had several debates on how to do certain things and what to do. We have set the bar pretty high for ourselves, so now lets see if we pass it! Without further ado, let me present to you our idea of our opening film.

So to begin, as I had said previously our film is going to be based in the genre teenage drama. I won't get into specifics of camera angles and shots today, but that will be posted soon. Primarily, we see a car pull up to what sounds like a house party. We don’t see the character fully until later on when she truly is in the party. When she is going into the house, we will see her shoes (We’re thinking high heels but we are not 100 percent sure yet.) Then once she is in the center of the party, she will start to talk to her friends. Some of her friends haven't seen her in a while, so they start to ask her some questions, such as “How are you and your boyfriend?” “Are your parents doing well?” and “You look so skinny, you must tell me your secrets!” These are some of the questions that the main character will be asked. She is going to answer all the questions with phrases like ‘good” or “they’re doing great.” Although we find out that the character’s answers are completely false. Either before or after she answers the question, we are going to show quick flashbacks of her and her boyfriend arguing, her parents getting a divorce, and maybe a glimpse into an eating disorder. These will be short, but it’s just so the audience can start to get in the mind of our main character. After the last question, you are going to see our character become overwhelmed and say she must go into the bathroom. Once she is in the bathroom, we are going to  see the main character just feel horrible with herself like crying or just looking very down. In the meantime she will be looking at herself in the mirror, and the audience is going to hear these voices going through her head like “Get it together”, “don’t let it show,” “I hate myself,” etc. Then someone will knock on the bathroom either asking if everything is alright or to hurry out the bathroom. She would then proceed to wipe off her tears, splash her face with water, and then apply some lip gloss. Once she is done with this process, she will start to smile (obviously forced). Then across her top half of her face the title of our film will go across, “The Art of Smiling.” It will be on the screen for a second, then the title would fade and we see our main character exit the bathroom. This is our idea! I know it sounds very depressing, but unfortunately this is the reality of many teenagers nowadays. However, I am very proud of it so far and can't wait to start filming and editing.

Although I am very excited for this project, there are definitely some things that concern me. Primarily, filming locations. We are not 100% in whose house we are going to film in yet, but I know it's a struggle to keep everything quiet, whether it be due to neighbors, dogs, lawn mowing, or just parents talking. Moreover, figuring out the angles is probably going to be a challenge as we want the film to look professional, but smooth too. Furthermore, the editing is going to be tedious and playing with noises of a party and the main character’s voices (But I’ve seen Alexa’s skills so I’m not that worried!) I’m worried how many times it is going to take us to get a shot without laughing but that is going to be funny. Lastly, the filming in the mirror is the only other thing concerning me, besides that I think everything will be fine.

On the other hand, I am very excited. I'm excited for the process and to definitely see the final product. Moreover, the filming is going to be fun to do as we are probably going to feel nervous and awkward at first, but I know once we feel comfortable and focused everything will go smoothly. I’m excited to work on the audio aspect of the film. I am excited to see how we get our characters to dress and how to make it feel as realistic as possible. Plus, doing the storyboard is going to be hard, but I am excited to have that as a guide. The script is also going to be fun making with my group. Lastly, I am excited to see how we design the title and hopefully do something fun with it.

I hope you like our idea because I know I definitely do! Can’t wait to officially start the journey with you! See you soon!
