The Audio of our Film!
I’m on Spring Break! Finally. However, today I am here today to write to you about another aspect of our project, the sound. But before that let me give you some good news. WE FINISHED OUR FILM. It is officially done and don't worry I will give you more details in another blog about how we were finally able to get the title right. But today I’m going to talk about sound and what audio we use for our film. Let’s start!
If you go back to our storyboard blog posts you can see several audios whether it be diegetic or non diegetic sounds being used. However, after filming and editing some have been removed or put into different places. Let me tell you of some of the sounds we used. The first sound you hear in our film is the sound of a doorbell. Once Rachel or Desiree is in the backyard where the party is you can hear several noises. You hear the chattering and talking of some of the guests at the party and you hear some music. We used two different copyright free music which I will provide you the link to right now…
When we first started to plan filming and editing, we primarily thought of finding some music we like and adding it to the film during the post production process. However, that day we decided to use of one of my speakers and play the music. The speaker was loud enough for the camera to pick up and we made sure that our actors were speaking loud enough and clear. Moreover, I think it was a good idea to incorporate the music when the actors and actresses were there as it made the scene feel a little bit more real and helped get into the right mood.
As for other sounds, as the film continues you do hear some ambient sounds such as the pool water and pump running in the backwards but it was low enough to still hear the important conversation. Moreover, you can slightly hear the music in the background making it seem that the characters have found a more quiet place to chat. As the story continues, and “Rachel” goes into the bathroom you start to hear a heartbeat. It is going at a decent pace. Then the heartbeat turns more slow and deeper as the voiceover of Rachel starts to happen. You hear her saying horrible things to herself. This voiceover has an echo effect as Alexa decided to add it to make it sound more dramatic. The heartbeat cuts out as someone is knocking on the door. The heartbeat continues and slowly starts to fade away as the melancholy music starts to fade in slowly. Finally the music starts to become louder as one sees the final shot of Rachel forcing her smile. The music continues until the very end. Overall, those are all the sounds we used in our final film.
As I have stated before, Alexa has been our hands on editor and she has been doing it all at her house due to her having a MAC. We have been using iMovie for this film. As for diegetic sound we have the doorbell, the talking, and the party music. As for non-diegetic sound we have the heartbeat and the melancholy music at the end.
Doing this project we knew that audio was going to be important so we wanted to make it as good as possible. It took us multiple times to get the heartbeat sound right and play with it. All in all, I am very happy that the sound is done and hopefully you will enjoy it.
