My Mood Board
Welcome back! Today we are going to be talking about my mood board. We were told to make a mood board of a genre that we believe are future project will be. I chose teenage drama. As a teenager, this is good because I could relate and truly understand how a teenage feels. For now, my classmates and I have an idea for our film, but we all took a slight different turn in our mood boards. Some used different colors, images, more organized structure, more collage like structure, etc. We had our different visions but the same overall theme. Now let me give you the scoop of my mood board.
To begin, our idea is to have a teenage girl who has this "prefect" life. She has all these friends, she's studious, she spreads positivity, she has a great body, etc. However, every time she goes into her room the real version of her shows. As teenagers, our room is our safe space. It is where we can be ourselves without judgement. In this room of hers, we reveal her deepest secrets. We know that she actually feels lonely compared to having so many friends. Her perfect body is due to her having an eating disorder. Her perfect grades make her extremely stress and anxious. Her spreading positivity is the opposite of how she treats herself with horrible comments that no one wishes upon themselves. She is essentially two sided. Living a life she urges to have and fakes everyday, when in reality she is cracked and broken.
So you can understand a bit better, let me explain the images on my board. Before anything, the background that the pictures are on is a cracked wall. The person viewing it may not notice that at first glance just like someone would not notice that this girl is falling apart. Furthermore, the middle picture is of this girl crying and in distraught on the left side of her face. On her right, we see her but with a picture and it is her smiling. This image was perfect because it is the exact definition of what this girl is living. A fake life presented by the picture and a real life presented by the actual face of the woman. Now lets talk about the colors. I chose black and purple to show the contrast between the two lives. The black shows the distraught, depression, and anxiety this girl is truly feeling. The purple represents her fake life by showing she has friends and her great life. However, I chose the color purple because it can still be considered a "dark" color. For instance, it is not a pink that is always light or bright. The purple is good but I feel that it still shows her hiding a little bit of something.
To get into more details, let me explain some of the more "insignificant" pictures. On the right side, we see all the pictures in the purple. At the top, you see pictures of flowers, some friends, a phone, and silhouette of a lady. I chose the flowers to show the fragile and sweet persona that the girl has. The picture of friends to show how she is really kind and has people surrounding her. Moreover, I chose the phone to show how that can be what leads her to this dark side of hers. I also chose the silhouette of the woman to show how she may be by having the perfect body and how she is confident in it. Down the right side you see more pictures of friends and a girl with her phone. I also put a picture of a sign that says "Love yourself" to show that she seems to be spreading this message, when she truly doesn't use this advice for herself.
On the left hand side, you see the black or true side of this character. At the top you see a woman measuring her body, a girl in her room by herself, a girl looking out the window, and a teary eye. The bodies of the woman with the measuring tape are meant to represent her body dysmorphia and eating disorder. The girl in the bedroom is to represent her safe place. The girl looking out the window represent her loneliness. The teary eye represents how she feels sad, anxious, stressed, etc. When you keep going down you see images of a girl walking by herself at the beach, a woman crying with a mask with a smiley face, a road sign saying it is lonely, and a heart that is out of "battery". The girl walking down the beach and the road sign symbolize how the girl may have all these friends but she still feels lonely and isolated. The woman with the mask symbolizes how she feels that she always has to be hiding her true self. Lastly, the heart that is out of "battery" shows how she feels empty and about to give up.
