Post Production Part 2!
Hi! I am back again with a blog to deliver. Today we are going to talk about our second day of post production. Alexa started to edit at 6;00 P.M and Desiree and I joined her in a call around 7:15 P.M. We finished the call at 10:30 P.M, so it was a very productive night. Let me tell you about everything we did in those four hours.
To begin, Alexa on her own focused on the sound aspects of the film. Desiree and I were doing some responsibilities so we were not able to call at that time. Alexa added the heartbeat sound effect for the bathroom scene, she adjusted the volume of the scenes therefore we can hear the audio better. In addition, she found the “copyright free pool party music” we used for the day of filming the party, in order to make the quality sound better. Later on we joined the call around at 7:15 P.M. When we joined Alexa showed us the video and I commented on the heartbeat. I told her that we should try to have the heartbeat gradually become rapid and reach a pinnacle when Kimora knocks on the door. Afterwards, it would decrease and become more calm. She fixed it and it sounded better and more nerve racking.
Afterwards, we started to work on the credits. Alexa told us she found the correct order for credits and we wrote it on a shared google doc. Desiree and I helped her fill in the empty titles or spaces that we were not sure who was going to have. Then Alexa started to put in the credits into the film. It did take her a couple of minutes, so while she did that, Desiree and I were studying for a math quiz for the next day. (We love multitaskers.) Once Alexa finished putting the credits she asked to view it. It was really nice but we then started to talk about tweaks we can add to it. The titles were too big and were taking up the majority of the screen at the bottom, so I asked if we can make it smaller and leave it more in a corner. Alexa found out that she can edit the size and font of the titles and names. So she went through several different fonts and sizes and we all finally agreed on one that looked nice and simple but also small enough that you can read it but it doesn’t take up the majority of the space.
Later on, we started to do the title. The title was a struggle! We took a while trying to figure out what font we wanted. We narrowed it down to 5 fonts and then were between two. However, once we were there, we realized that the title did not cover Desiree's eyes as we wanted to and would cover her smile instead. Unfortunately, on Imovie you cannot move titles so we were a bit stuck. Desiree had to leave for a while due to an incident that happened with her dog. Then Alexa and I tried to find out what to do about the title. I searched up a YouTube video and it said to go on to Canva and do some steps. I was telling Alexa these steps and while she was trying to create a design. When she was doing the design, I was trying to search for some sad, melancholy copyright free music and I finally found a great song. Afterwards, I realized it wasn't copyright free and I was very mad. So I continued on a hunt for a good song and it took a while to find until I found something. Once I found it, I sent it to Alexa and I told her the time frame that we can use was 0.26 seconds to 0.36 seconds. She found that time frame and put it in. Once we were all very tired and wanted to go to bed. So we did not get to finish our title as nothing was working. Alexa sent us the video and its progress. We watched it and we were very happy with how it looked.
Overall, it was a very productive day of editing and we are very proud of it. We will have a final editing day to put the title, final audio checks, and anything else we want to adjust. Our next challenge is to cut down the 6 extra seconds we have. Wish us luck.
