Post Production Has Begun!

Hello and welcome to a big step in our project. We have reached the post production part. Today I will be talking of our first day of editing and how we did it and some challenges that we had. So get ready and grab a snack!

So on Thursday, March 3, We began editing. As I have said before, Alexa is our main editor as she has a Mac and we agreed to use Imovie as our editing platform. So Alexa texted us in our grouchat and told us she was going to order the videos and to cut them down a little bit. When she ordered all the clips that we wanted to use she realized that we had 3 minutes 30 seconds worth of film. I know it's crazy. But we were happy that we had a lot more extra than too little. Alexa told us this and we told her to cut shots that she believed were not necessary. She started to cut off scenes, such as the montage, Rachel getting down from the car, the second question, and some other shots. When she took these off we had 2 minutes and 13 seconds of film, so progress was made. Afterwards, Alexa added some of the transitions we wanted and sent us the overall video through email. We did have some challenges with that. Desiree and Kimora weren't able to see the video, but I was. So they decided to watch the video the next day during study hall. (Unfortunately, I have been sick so I haven't been at school nor seen my group in awhile so we have been communicating through text and call.) However, I facetimed desire and was able to show her the video. We made some comments on it and some things that we wanted to change. We then did a merged call between Alexa, Desiree and me.

Our Editor,  Alexa

When we got to the call, Alexa was ready to write the comments and notes we had on the film. One of the first things we commented on was that it was great and that we were excited to watch. Then we started to talk about the things we should change. One of them being a clip that was too long, which was the clip where Rachel was asked a question. I also said that I wanted to shorten the pan shot of the party because it felt a bit awkward and too long. Moreover, I commented that some of the shots that we originally thought  would look fine just as a regular cut needed some type of transition. We started to fix these things and talked about some other factors that we realized we wanted to change. In addition, we  started to prepare for the next day of editing.

So some other factors we realized were the filters. Before we started filming I was positive that we needed a filter to make our film look better. Desiree, Alexa, and I went through the filters and none of them we really liked, so Desiree and I started to ask Alexa if she could manipulate the saturation and she was able to. Once she did this we were all satisfied with it as it gave the colors a pop and Rachel's pink shirt stood out even more. We then started to change the filter for the bathroom scene and try to make it more gloomy which we eventually found the one we wanted. Moreover, we did edit some audio. I told Alexa that we could have a sound bridge of Rachel screaming at Ruby and Caleb into the shot of present time that way it sounds a bit better. At some point, Desiree did have to leave to do some chores, but Alexa and I continued to do some little aspects. Alexa and I were seeing which echo effect we liked the most for the voiceover in the bathroom scene. We finally chose one. Lastly, Alexa gave me a quick glimpse of the fonts for when we do our title and credits.

We then decided that we will have an audio editing day, a credits and title editing day, and a final check day. Overall, it was a good first day of editing. I can't wait for us to see our final product and for you to see it too!
